The three best states for high school badminton

The National Federation of State High School Associations has just released its annual head count of kids participating in youth sports. This is always interesting stuff.

The number of kids playing high school sports reached another record during the 2009-2010 school year, 7.6 million.

According to the survey, 55.1 percent of students enrolled in high schools participate in athletics.

Other curiosities from the survey:

In California, there are 38.920 girls playing high school volleyball. In Vermont, just 25. (Only two schools have teams).

Three states offer boys' badminton: Kentucky, California and Maryland.

Two offer canoeing: California and Hawaii.

There were 33 male field hockey players in Ohio.

Two girls played baseball in Kentucky last season (on the same team). In New Hampshire, there was one.

Check it all out here.

Enjoyment and participation are very far from each other. The number of children forced to play by parents dreaming of DIV I college scholarships seems to be on the rise also. So I would expect "Participation" to increase.
